How to make your characters believable

Well, the first thing about making a character believable is, make them ‘human’ I don’t mean humans as the race, I mean human as in make them fallible. In my book series, this is easy, as almost everyone in my books is-or was-a human, with the notable exception of one character that was a cat.
But even if your characters are aliens from Titan, they need to have foibles, drives, wants and needs. This is what makes a character believable.
